Dysesthesia is a generic term for a cutaneous symptoms such as pruritus, burning, tingling, anesthesia, hypoesthesia, pain or cold sensation, without a primary cutaneous condition. It can be generalized or localised, and appears as a result of some neurological diseases or often follows nerve trauma, impingement or irritation. There are multiple variants of cutaneous dysesthesia depending on the body location and the nerves involved. While location, exact symptoms, and etiologies might vary, the only certainty is that the dyshestesia has a neurological origin with dermatological consequences, so patients present to the dermatologist. This paper reviews the pathology associated with cutaneous dysesthesia and the variants of dysesthesia including scalp dysethesia, trigeminal trophic syndrome, meralgia paraesthetica, notalgia paraesthetica and brahioradial pruritus.<\/p>\n

It can be generalized or localised, and appears as a result of some neurological diseases or often follows nerve trauma, impingement or irritation. There are multiple variants of cutaneous dysesthesia depending on the body location and the nerves involved. While location, exact symptoms, and etiologies might vary, the only certainty is that the dyshestesia has a neurological origin with dermatological consequences, so patients present to the dermatologist.
