Between proof-based medicine and the evidence of clinical experience<\/span>
Authors: Daniel O. Costache, Raluca S. Costache<\/span><\/p>\n2020, in it\u2019s first half, has managed to make us question everything that we thought we clearly knew about modern medicine. We had the impression that we mastered the pathophysiological mechanism of disease, that there were no surprises in store for us, that medicine tends to be something logical, something that we could control through clinical proof, and, more especially, clinical studies.
\nWell these couple of months have shown us that things are not as they seem, that apparently irreproachable pharmacological theories may not always give results, that we must learn that sometimes the experts\u2019 opinions can be influenced be external, non-professional factors, that the information that we can find on-line, including professionally, come with a background noise.
\nIt all starts with our necessity to learn how to interpret the available medical information, where to choose the sources from which we gather information, what to look for when studying a professional material. We must learn the dual language of statistics, we must learn that sometimes the most important paragraph of a clinical study is not the one on the results, but the selection of the patient groups, the exclusion criteria and the design of the control branch.
\n2020 has taught us that it is healthy to question appearances, whoever might present them and how obvious they would look to us.
\nWe must succeed to go past the background noise and remind ourselves that medicine is about the patient, the relationship between people, personalization and individuality.<\/p>\n

2020, in it\u2019s first half, has managed to make us question everything that we thought we clearly knew about modern medicine. We had the impression that we mastered the pathophysiological mechanism of disease, that there were no surprises in store for us, that medicine tends to be something logical, something that we could control through clinical proof, and, more especially, clinical studies.
\nWell these couple of months have shown us that things are not as they seem, that apparently irreproachable pharmacological theories may not always give results, that we must learn that sometimes the experts\u2019 opinions can be influenced be external, non-professional factors, that the information that we can find on-line, including professionally, come with a background noise.
\nIt all starts with our necessity to learn how to interpret the available medical information, where to choose the sources from which we gather information, what to look for when studying a professional material. We must learn the dual language of statistics, we must learn that sometimes the most important paragraph of a clinical study is not the one on the results, but the selection of the patient groups, the exclusion criteria and the design of the control branch.
\n2020 has taught us that it is healthy to question appearances, whoever might present them and how obvious they would look to us.
